Superior Power Electric
Caledon's Trusted Electrician

Superior Power Electric serves all of Caledon, from the busy streets of Bolton and the new builds of SouthFields Village to the rolling countryside of Palgrave, the equestrian estates along Mount Hope Road, and the heritage hamlets of Belfountain and Inglewood. This is not cookie-cutter suburban electrical work. Caledon properties have real character, and we treat them accordingly.

Many rural Caledon properties still run on 100-amp service that was installed when the home was built decades ago. Today, between EV chargers, heat pumps, home workshops, and well pumps, 100 amps is nowhere near enough. Upgrading to a 200-amp panel is our most common project in Caledon, and we coordinate directly with Hydro One to make it happen smoothly.

Bolton is Caledon's commercial hub and its fastest-growing residential centre. SouthFields Village and Valleywood are filling with young families who need EV chargers, pot lights, and smart home wiring. Meanwhile, King Street's older homes are being renovated and need updated panels and circuits to support modern living. Bolton alone keeps us busy year-round.

Palgrave is a different world from Bolton - 5-acre to 50-acre estates with main houses, guest cottages, horse barns, riding arenas, and heated workshops. A single Palgrave property can require the electrical planning of a small commercial project. We have worked on estates along Finnerty Sideroad and Mount Hope Road, wiring everything from barn ventilation systems to driveway gate operators and landscape lighting across acres of land.

The heritage hamlets along the Credit River - Inglewood, Belfountain, Terra Cotta, Cheltenham, and Alton - are some of Caledon's most charming communities and also home to its oldest wiring. We handle knob-and-tube removal, panel upgrades, and full rewires in these century-old homes with the care they deserve. Call us for a $49 on-site assessment, credited toward your project.

Local Electrical Challenges

Common Electrical Issues
in Caledon

Rural 100-Amp Service Limits

Caledon has more rural properties per capita than almost anywhere in the GTA. Hundreds of homes along Airport Road, Healey Road, and the concession roads between Bolton and Mono Mills are still running on the original 100-amp service. One EV charger draws 40 amps. Add a well pump, a workshop, and a heat pump, and the math does not work. These properties need 200-amp upgrades before anything else.

Horse Barn and Arena Wiring

Caledon is horse country. From Palgrave's private estates to the riding facilities near the Caledon Equestrian Park, barns need specialized wiring: dust-proof light fixtures rated for agricultural use, GFCI-protected outlets, heated waterer circuits, ventilation fan power, and arena lighting. Standard residential electricians often get this wrong. We know what the ESA requires in agricultural buildings.

Extended Power Outages in Rural Areas

When Hydro One goes down after an ice storm or wind event, urban areas get priority restoration. Rural Caledon properties on Airport Road, Mississauga Road, and the backcountry east of Highway 10 can be without power for 24 to 72 hours. Backup generator hookups with proper transfer switches are not a luxury here - they are a necessity for well-pumped water, sump pumps, and refrigeration.

Heritage Hamlet Wiring in Belfountain and Inglewood

Belfountain, Inglewood, Terra Cotta, and Cheltenham are beautiful heritage hamlets with homes dating to the 1800s. The wiring in these homes has been patched and extended over 100+ years. Insurance companies are flagging these properties, and some homeowners have received non-renewal notices until the electrical is brought up to current standards.

Learn More

Long Driveway and Outbuilding Runs

Caledon properties regularly have 50-metre to 200-metre runs from the main panel to a detached garage, workshop, or barn. Over those distances, voltage drop becomes a real issue if the wire gauge is not sized correctly. Undersized feeders cause motors to overheat, lights to dim, and tools to underperform. Proper engineering of these runs is critical.

Panel Upgrades

The 100-amp to 200-amp panel upgrade is our single most requested service in Caledon. Rural properties that were wired 30 to 50 years ago simply do not have the capacity for EV chargers, workshops, heat pumps, and modern kitchens. Bolton homes from the 1990s are also hitting the ceiling as homeowners add circuits. We handle the full upgrade - new panel, meter base, Hydro One coordination, and ESA inspection.

Barn & Outbuilding Wiring

From horse barns in Palgrave to hobby workshops in Caledon East and studio spaces in Terra Cotta, outbuilding wiring is a Caledon specialty. We install properly sized feeder cables, weatherproof sub-panels, dust-proof and moisture-rated fixtures, GFCI-protected outlets, and dedicated circuits for welders, compressors, and heating equipment. Every installation passes ESA inspection.

EV Charger Installation

Caledon residents drive more kilometres per day than almost anywhere in the GTA. Commuting from Bolton or Caledon East to Brampton, Mississauga, or Toronto means EV range matters, and so does having a Level 2 charger at home for a full overnight charge. We install the dedicated 240V circuit and charger in garages and carports across Caledon, including rural properties with longer panel-to-charger runs.

Landscape & Estate Lighting

Palgrave estates and large Bolton properties invest in landscape lighting that highlights their acreage - driveway bollards, tree uplighting, pathway lights, barn accent lighting, and security floods. We design and install low-voltage LED landscape systems with timers, photocells, and zone control. On a 5-acre Palgrave lot, a well-designed lighting system transforms the property and adds real value.

Knob-and-Tube Removal

The heritage hamlets of Inglewood, Belfountain, Cheltenham, and Alton are where we find the oldest wiring in Caledon. Homes built in the late 1800s and early 1900s along the Credit River often still have active knob-and-tube circuits buried under blown-in insulation - a serious fire hazard. We remove it completely and rewire with modern copper, preserving the heritage character of the home.

Electrical History

Understanding your home's era helps us diagnose issues faster and recommend the right solutions.

Heritage Village Homes

Pre-1950

The hamlets of Inglewood, Belfountain, Cheltenham, Alton, and Terra Cotta contain Caledon's oldest housing stock. These stone cottages, former mill workers' homes, and farmhouses along the Credit River and its tributaries were wired with whatever was standard at the time - often knob-and-tube or early Romex with cloth insulation. Most have been added to haphazardly over the decades.

  • Complete knob-and-tube removal and copper rewiring
  • Upgrade from fuse box to 200-amp breaker panel
  • Proper grounding system installation
  • GFCI and arc-fault protection in all required areas

Mid-Century Rural Properties

1950 - 1980

Farmhouses and rural homes built during this period are scattered across Caledon's countryside along Airport Road, Old Church Road, and the concession roads between Bolton and Palgrave. Most were wired with 100-amp service - adequate for a farm with a well pump and basic lighting, but nowhere near enough for today's demands. Many also have detached barns and workshops with questionable wiring.

  • 100-amp to 200-amp service upgrade
  • Aluminum wiring inspection and remediation
  • Barn and outbuilding sub-panel installation
  • Generator transfer switch for rural power outages

Bolton Suburban Expansion

1985 - 2010

Bolton grew rapidly during this period with subdivisions spreading along King Street, Humber Lea Road, and north toward Caledon East. These homes have 100-amp or 200-amp service, but the original fixtures, breakers, and wiring are now 15 to 40 years old. The panels have limited spare capacity for adding EV chargers and home office circuits.

  • Panel capacity assessment and potential upgrade
  • EV charger circuit addition
  • Pot light conversion from halogen to LED
  • Whole-home surge protection installation

SouthFields, Valleywood & New Caledon

2010 - Present

SouthFields Village in Bolton and the newer sections of Caledon East represent Caledon's fastest-growing communities. These homes meet current code but were typically built without dedicated EV charger circuits, home office sub-panels, or landscape lighting rough-ins. Homeowners are adding these within a few years of moving in.

  • Dedicated 240V, 50-amp EV charger circuit
  • Landscape lighting installation for larger lots
  • Smart home wiring and panel integration
  • Basement development electrical for home theatre and gym

Palgrave Estate Properties

1990 - Present

Palgrave's luxury rural estates sit on 5-acre to 50-acre lots along Finnerty Sideroad, Mount Hope Road, and the roads surrounding the Caledon Equestrian Park. These properties often have multiple buildings - a main house, guest house, barn, riding arena, and workshop - each needing its own electrical service or sub-panel. The scope of work on a single Palgrave property can rival a small commercial project.

  • Multi-building electrical distribution planning
  • Horse barn and riding arena wiring with dust-proof fixtures
  • Heated waterer and barn ventilation circuits
  • Landscape lighting across large acreage

Permits & Compliance

Caledon Electrical
Permits & Regulations

Electrical Permits

All electrical work in Caledon requires an ESA permit. For rural properties, the permit process is the same as urban work - we file the notification, complete the work, and schedule the inspection. Agricultural buildings (barns, arenas, workshops) fall under the same ESA jurisdiction. We handle all the paperwork so you can focus on your property.

Insurance & Liability

We carry $5M commercial general liability insurance and WSIB coverage. Rural Caledon insurers - especially for heritage hamlet properties - are increasingly requiring documented proof that electrical work was completed by a licensed, ESA-certified contractor before issuing or renewing policies.

What Caledon Homeowners Say

5.0 from 47 reviews on Google

Professional, courteous, tidy, on time and reasonably priced. He does what he says he will do. Shaun sets the bar where all contractors and businesses should strive to be. I was renovating my kitchen in my 1960s era house which was sorely lacking outlets for appliances.

We had an electrical issue with our circuits and they came in the next day. Shaun was very nice and helpful and above all very professional. He even provided recommendations on how to avoid similar problems moving forward.

We called Shaun again because we were so happy with his previous work and knew he was a great communicator and problem solver. Once again he was able to quickly identify the concern and even came on a snowy Sunday to fix our issue so we would have the work done before Christmas.
